Perfumed Button Earrings
These exquisite, romantic buttons, c. 1890-1910, held a touch of perfume in the velvet background and were worn by Victorian women on their clothing. By adding the scent to their buttons they could avoid staining their fine fabrics and silks with perfume. It is said that during the Civil War young ladies would remove a perfumed button from their dress and present as a sweet memento it to a loved one when he went off to war. How romantic!
