Here Be Dragons Antique Button Necklace!

I love imagining what kind of garment this button was originally sewn to - it's stunning!

Though I’ve heard the expression, “Here be dragons” many times before, I had to look up its origin and meaning.

In the 1700’s cartographers drew illustrations of dragons and other mythological sea creatures on the faraway, uncharted sections of their maps. This was done to warn seafarers of the areas where these sea monsters were believed to exist.

Today the phrase “Here be dragons” is used to warn people away from unexplored or untried actions which might lead to danger. Click here to learn more about this unusual one-of-a-kind antique button necklace!
