Autumn - What's Not to Love?

Recently a friend asked me why I swoon over autumn. I tried to describe the crispness of the air, sunlight’s gentler glow, the dazzling colors, cozy sweaters, boots, pumpkins and sweet, freshly picked apples.
But since English is her second language, she had trouble understanding what “crisp air” was and why I was so excited to ditch my sundress for boots and sweaters.
Autumn is simply an experience for the senses, I told her.
Can you feel how stimulating and invigorating the air is? Yes, she sighed, pulling her sweater closer.
Do you smell the intoxicating aroma of that warm-from-the-oven pumpkin loaf? She inhaled and whispered . . . yes!
Just look at the variety of crimson reds, vibrant oranges, and sun-bright yellows of the leaves against the cerulean sky! Yes, I see them!
So, I think my friend may finally understand why I marvel at the saturation of senses I feel during my favorite season of the year, autumn (though I do believe she still prefers the steamy heat of summer).
What’s your favorite season?
Thank you, Lord, for creating autumn with its spectacular array of colors, crisp and invigorating air, and the welcome change in sunlight. You are truly the Great Creator, and that’s never more evident to me as You unveil autumn each year.
Amen
